"I've saved nearly £25,000 on petrol in the 7 years I've owned my Tesla"
There are so many reasons to switch to a battery electric vehicle (BEV)
We urgently need to reduce our carbon emissions. Transport is now the number one source of carbon emissions in the UK and most of that is from cars and vans. One of the fastest ways we can help the planet is by switching to EVs.
BEVs have no engine so there is no petrol or diesel to buy, no engine oil to change and no exhaust to replace. Servicing is cheaper. Electricity is much cheaper per mile of travel than petrol or diesel if you can use your home electricity supply. A night rate or EV tariff makes it even better value.
Electric cars don't have gears, so there is no clutch. You'll need to find something else to do with your left foot! Some can also be set into a mode called one-pedal driving, which automatically applies a gentle braking action when you take your foot off the accelerator.
Did you know that in a petrol or diesel car, only 12% to 30% of the energy consumed actually moves the car? A battery electric vehicle converts over 77% of its energy to power at the wheels. Also, a BEV can actually add energy to its battery whilst slowing down or going downhill through a process called regeneration (regen).
Below 20mph, electric cars are almost silent. You may hear a small amount of noise coming from the motor as you accelerate. In fact the cars are so quiet, they produce an artificial electronic noise so that pedestrians can hear them coming. Above 20 mph, the noise of the tyres on the road is enough to warn other road users.
As there is no engine, there are no vibrations transmitted to your body via the seat or steering wheel whilst you travel in a BEV. The experience is similar to very expensive luxury cars that minimise noise and vibration. Most people when they first ride in a BEV describe the feeling of "gliding" down the road!
BEVs used as company cars attract a number of tax benefits. A business can write off 100% of the electric vehicle cost against profits in the year of purchase. Benefit In Kind (BIK) rates are also significantly lower for BEVs than petrol/diesel cars. Employees could save money purchasing or leasing a BEV through a company salary sacrifice scheme.
Do you know that 90% of EV owners say they would not go back to a petrol or diesel vehicle? Hear below from some happy drivers who made the switch.

"I am 80, this is my first electric car. It cost less than a petrol Golf of the same age and mileage."
"I don't fly, so we take our car on family holidays to the South of France."
"We bought a 3 year old Tesla for our son to use on his daily commute. He loves it!"
